A DeaconCategory:
Church
It’s official. I’m a deacon in my church as of the congregational vote yesterday. I’m scared. I have little clue as to what it means to be a deacon in the CRC or any church for that matter. With everything that’s been happening at our church with our pastors leaving, I am even more unsure what is next. When I said yes to the nomination, my pastors were still there. Then, I had a better idea of what I was committing to. Now, I am unsure. I really want to effect change at our church. From my perspective so far, the church lacks the Spirit’s guidance. Most sunday’s are nominal worship experiences at best and void of personal involvement with other beleivers. Shifty, untrusting eyes are seen everywhere I go. I don’t feel warmth from many people as I walk through the hallways before and after church. Some return amiable, cheesy-churchy smiles as we pass each other. Some grimmace. Some turn away. One year of being a deacon will tell me what to expect in the remaining 3 year term. I will give it one year of listening and observing before making changes. We’ll see how it goes. congratulations, i think. paul, sometimes leading in a christ community means setting an example of humility and submission, and sometimes it means knocking over the selling tables. i'll pray for you in the next year--that you might have discernment for how to act in your church community as a leader.
I am curious - you are deacon of a church to which you do not link yet you link to two other churchs that are unrelated. Why is that?
You're right, Samuel, it was a bit confusing to put the title churches over top of a list of churches i don't belong to. for now, i've titled it "churches i like" to make things a bit clearer, although i admit it's still not entirely clear. i'll be addressing that when i redesign the site soon (hopefully).
