Ex-Christian

Category: Culture

I found this blog (Ex-Christian: Encouraging Ex-Christians) by happenstance the other day. In some ways it’s hard for me to link to this site because it goes in the face of a lot of things I stand for. On the other hand, there are some thing I agree with. It seems to me that the author is very black and white and is a direct product of a modern world where God is put into a box and two things can’t be true at the same time. Unfortuneately, this soul has lost sight of the universal truths of God, and has turned to scientific reasoning and the truth of the moment to shape his worldview.

It is a counterfeit love that is contingent upon authority punishment or reward. In a nutshell, God had to kill Himself to appease Himself so that He would not have to roast us, His beloved creations, in HELL forever. He loves us more than we can ever comprehend, but if we don’t return His affections, He will make us regret it for eternity. Now that is AMAZING GRACE!

These myths violate natural law, contradict science, and fail to correspond with reality or logic. If you can’t see that, then you can’t separate truth from fantasy. (See his letter to Christians)

While he is sacreligious and his posts are against christianity, the content seems to reflect a deep need inside of himself to really understand God. It’s almost as if he should rename his site to “Wanted: Real Christians”

What do you think?

First off, this dude's web site is really dense and it hard to sift through everything. I read his little list for how to get "unsaved" and it smacks of someone who has had true christanity grotesquely misrepresented to them. He takes the Bible out of context and misinterprets various things.

The christianity he is complaining about is not the Christianity i am a part of. I agree, if this guy could be open to true christianity, then i think his mission might change.

Typical Christian judgementalism.

I am sorry the site is too dense to sift through. Perhaps a real interest in reading would cure your inability to ingest large amounts of material.

I especially like your superior attitude that you and you alone have "true" christianity.

I was a "true" christian for 30 years until I finally woke up.

Good luck on your own "awakening."

wow, webmaster. you've got kinda a bad attitude.

I think the guy's summary of Christianity is correct. I haven't visited the site, but basically the quote is saying the God loves us, we rejected his love, he provided a way for us to be restored (if we want), and if we have no interest in loving God, we can choose to reject him. The problem is, most people don't think about what eternal life without God will be like. There will be no light, no joy, no love, no peace, no truth, etc., since these things are only possible with God.

Counterfeit love would force everyone to go to heaven, even if they were opposed to God. God gives us a choice - I don't see any disconnect there...

As you say, there is honesty in those writings. Contrast that site to this one - after reading his explanation Why I am an atheist I understand why this guy has chosen the path he has. So he believes that Christianity is a bunch of fallacies, and he is scornful. But instead of trying to showing us where we've gone wrong, he simply mocks and ridicules Christians. Which really doesn't help to "set us straight" anyhow. The funny part is, he says the Christian fundies send him hate mail, but then he turns around and spews out hatred on his website...

ex-christian seems like one angry guy. his attitude toward the bible reminds me of anti-harry potter parents, for an example. they take parts they don't like about the books and claim they're evil instead of looking at the whole message of the books, which is very moral and affirming.
