pH Balance of the Body

Category: My Life

Lately I’ve been trying to eat better. Over the past month or so, for lunch at work, I’ve been eating only veggies, fruit, and yogurt—cutting out a sandwich and chips. During that time, I’ve lost over 10 pounds, have more energy in the afternoon, and just plain feel better.

Since then, my folks-in-law went to a nutritionist because my mother-in-law has been diagnosed with uterine cancer—her 2nd bout with cancer in 3 years. They went to the nutritionist to receive advice on how to change a diet to improve the quality of life and decrease the effect of cancer. The nutrionist talked about the pH balance in our bodies and how the body will fight hard to keep our bodies in check.

A simple search on Google for “body pH balance” brought up several articles on the subject… “pH balance of the body could play a key role in disease—primarily from the viewpoint of cancer.”

The Importance of your Body’s pH Balance

Simply put—an imbalance of alkalinity creates a condition favorable to the growth of bacteria, yeast and other unwanted organisms… The body will go to great lengths to neutralize and detoxify these acids before they act as poisons in and around the cell, ultimately changing the environment of the cell…A state of acidosis is simply the lack of oxygen and available calcium which the body uses to maintain its alkaline balance.

As we become more and more acidic the body starts to set up defense mechanisms to keep the damaging acid from entering our vital organs. It is known that acid gets stored in fat cells. After all, if the acid does come into contact with an organ the acid has a chance to eat holes in the tissue. This may cause the cells to mutate. The oxygen level drops in this acidic environment and calcium begins to be depleted. So as a defense mechanism, your body may actually make fat to protect you from your overly-acidic self. Those fat cells and cellulite deposits may actually be packing up the acid and trying to keep it a safe distance from your organs. The fat may be saving your vital organs from damage.

As the body becomes more acidic, to protect against the event of heart attack, stroke, illness, or even cancer, the body attempts to remain healthy.

This type of thinking changed the way I think about food! It’s no wonder we’re seeing an increase in cancer. Have you had any experience with working toward a better pH balance?

wow. that's an interesting article. it's a wonder that we don't learn this kind of stuff in school or something. even worse, most doctors don't know that much about nutrition beyond the food pyramid. scary. thanks for the info. it would be good to read up on this more!

Did you know that if you keep your body alkaline enough, it will not be an environment suitable for bacteria, virus and yeast?  They can actually take your blood, put it under a microscope and see all of the organisms in your blood, CONSUMING YOUR blood cells before your very eyes!!!

After a short amount of time on an alkaline, you can examine your blood and it will be free of these dangerous organisms.

Anyway, Tom Hopkins did some tapes on it, and he has been on an alkaline diet and condones it.

The key is to remember that just because something is acidic in nature, doesn't mean that your body converts it into acid.  For example, you want to stay away from sugar.  Your body converts it into acid ( the citric acid cycle that converts glucose into ATP ).  So, the type of fruits that you want to eat are low in sugar: lemons and limes.  They are acidic, but for some reason, your body turns them into alkaline substances.

Stay away from meat, it has lots of microorganisms in it and is acidic.

Eat lots of green stuff.  Anything green is good for you.

Spirulina is good for you, it has all essential amino acids.  What we do is add a dash of spirulina and lemon to our water and it is a healthy alkaline beverage.

For a hot tea you have probably heard of adding fresh squeezed lemon, cayenne pepper, and maple syrup to hot water.  There is a chemical reaction that occurs with the lemon and maple syrup in hot water conditions that creates an alkaline effect.

If you use any sweeteners, maple syrup (the real stuff- the lower the grade the more pure) and black strap mollasses are actually alkaline.

Avacados are good for you.  Even though they are high in fat, your body actually needs fat in order to be able to lose weight.  People always wonder why they can't lose that last 10 pounds.  It is because the body will not allow it to diminish the fat resources it needs if you are not taking in any fat

topic :ph balance

A question on body ph balance. While it is important to keep our body ph balance more towards alkaline, would a strong alkaline body post any health hazard?

good question, andrew. i had the same one when i first heard about this concept. from what i understand about ph balance, it is impossible for your body to move off of the ph it has. if it did move off of it, then you would die. however, most of us tend towards the acidic (toxic) side of the balance because of all the crap we eat with all of the preservatives, steroids, etc. if we could choose what side to "err" on, it should be the alkaline because there is where our body has what it needs to fight off it's enemies. for instance, when the body can't find enough alkalines to fight cancer cells, a sort of last resort would be for it to use calcium (a base/alkaline) to fight it. so, being slightly alkaline is in our best interest.

this is my understanding.
