All that is gold does not glitter

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost.

The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring.

Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.

from The Fellowship of the Ring

oh paul...i've read this 5 times and am moved by each reading.

"out of the stump of Jesse shall come a sprig..."

i know, dad... same thing happened to me when i first heard it. i was listening to the audio version of this book and had to rewind it 3 times to get the jist of it, but it hit me like a rock. i too immediately thought of the biblical ties, but hadn't pinpointed that verse. thanks for adding it!

my favorite part (and most dear to me at this time in my life's journey) is the line "the old that is strong does not wither," and "from the ashes a fire shall be woken."
