Lexio Divina

A couple weeks ago I was introduced to a type of meditation and study of the Word when I attended a Bible study sort of accidentally at church. The woman in charge walked us through the practice of Lexio Divina whereby we listened to, meditated on, and discussed a specific scripture passage. We repeated the exercise 3 times, each tweaking the method slightly.

I found it to be quite refreshing, bringing me to a state of peace and renewal. I felt like my soul had taken a shower after a long, hard day’s work.

Here’s more:

Lectio divina (Latin: sacred reading), is a method of meditative reading and conversation with God which can be traced back to the early patristic period, and continues to be a source of deep spiritual growth for many people throughout the world. It is usually done in three stages (Reading, Meditation, and Prayer) and is meant to be a relational encounter with God rather than theological study or exegisis.

Have you ever tried this form of meditation?

Divine reading is a wonderful way to read scripture devotionally. I've done it and have taught it as a part of a spiritual practices/disciplines class.

Good stuff have fun with it.
