In the Morning

“Oh God you are my God and I will ever praise you. I will seek you in the morning and I will learn to walk in your ways, and step by step you lead me and I will follow you all of my days.”

-by Rich Mullins

What does it mean to “seek [Him] in the morning?” I mean it’s true, isn’t it? Every day, I find that I have to seek God out to get me on the right track. What happens during the night that causes need for seeking Him in the morning? His guardian angels watch over us during the night which is amazing, but it still intrigues me that I have to seek Him out.

What are your thoughts and experiences on that?

I seek God in the shower. Not that He's hiding out in there, but that's where I am when I first seek Him in the morning! For me, to seek Him in the morning helps bring me back to the reality of life here and now. I tend to have a lot of vivid, sometimes disturbing, dreams. Sometimes I can't remember the details when I awaken, but the emotion of them is still there.
It is also the best way for me to combat the first thought that goes through my head when I hear the alarm, "I don't want to get up! I can't wait to take a nap when I get home." Then I get out of bed and into the shower and remember to thank God for the day, for the hot shower, and for the work that I have to do.
For me, seeking God is acknowledging and thanking Him for His presence at that moment and in my life in general.

Thank God we're not all robots and actually have to continually seek him! Free will... it's like that.

Kinda makes me think of the concept of our daily dying and rising in Christ and how Luther emphasized this. Life seems to have cycles in it and I guess by inference, our walk with Christ has cycles, even on a daily basis.

robyn, i do the same... in the shower. the shower is more than just waking up time. sometimes i do it as i'm walking down the stairs right after i get up, or getting breakfast ready, or on my commute to work. sometimes i do it in bed before i even get up. just depends where my mind and heart are at i guess.

jamison... i like that! seems like that would be a good explanation for WHY we need to do it.

Pray Naked
no matter who you are
no matter what you do
there's only one thing
i ask of you
and that's if you pray
then when you pray
be naked prey
pray naked
