Xian Artists Cover U2 Songs for Charity

Category: News , Recommendation

In the Name of Love CDI don’t know why it never occured to me that this would be a cool idea, but several Christian artists have put together a cd of U2 covers called In the Name of Love. There are several great artists on there including Sixpence, Nichole Nordeman, Jars of Clay, Delirious?, Tait, Toby Mac and more. I’ve previewed a few of the songs and it sounds good! I’ve already ordered one. :)

Did I mention the proceeds go to help the AIDS crisis in Africa?

i heard the sound clips of the songs here. i'm not sure if i was unimpressed with what i heard, or simply more impressed with U2's talent.

for example, it sounded like Delirious correctly mimicked Edge's guitar sound on Pride, but the drums seemed ...heavy, or something. and i think the Jars of Clay guy murdured All I Want is You.

sometimes we have to leave well BRILLIANT enough alone.

but the Nichole Nordeman take on Grace sounded promising.

a song like One should never, ever, be covered. it only makes sense as an artistic expression when the original artists perform it. 'nuff said.

i better stop critiquing this thing before i get really negative... i'll have to give the high quality sound files a listen before making a final judgement. for now, consider me amazed by U2 after listening to sound clips of more mortal creatures trying to play their heavenly sound :)
