Who I Want to BeCategory:
My Life
This week has been one of the busiest for me at work in years. I’ve been working more hours than I have been spending time with my family. This is not what I really want. When I work too much (most of the time) I become something that I’m not. I become something other than who I really want to be, and who I am deep down inside. Sometimes when I go on vacation, I remember who that person is. It usually takes a few days of “detox,” but finally I get to the point of dropping my guard and relaxing. When I get there, sometimes it surprises me—remembering who I am. That person is more patient, more kind, more loving… slower to anger, and quicker to grace. That person is richer, deeper. Thicker, and more transparent. Purer and sweeter. That person is who I want to be all the time. Posted by pablohart on March 18, 2004 10:18 AM |

Paul,
I hear ya! I too have become the "corporate monster" that I would have never chosen to be.
Worst part: I haven't had a real vacation in three years!
However, I am trying harder to be the person I really am. I /hope/ that a vacation is not the only way I can be that person.
consider "everyday sabbaths."
