My Top 10 Most Influencial Bands

The most recent post on my brother’s site inspired me to compile a list of most influencial bands in my life up until this point. I have to admit it was hard for me to narrow it down. Music is way too big a part of my life to limit my favorites to 10. But, to be fair, my taste in music has changed over time, so I’ve kept in some of the old influences. (In fact, MUSIC, compared to most other forms of thought-provoking insights, influences me the most.) That might explain why it seems like such an odd bunch.

  1. U2
  2. Charlie Peacock
  3. Sting
  4. Simon & Garfunkel
  5. The Choir
  6. Harrod & Funck
  7. Steve Camp
  8. Michael W Smith
  9. Petra
  10. dc Talk

Honorable mentions: Jars of Clay, Nichole Nordeman, Third Day, The Imperials (thanks Dad), Margaret Becker, Peter Gabriel, Phil Keaggy, Enya, Natalie Merchant, Vangelis, Ralston Bowles, David Gray, Dido

i'm so glad you posted this, dude. reading this brought back a flood of memories--mostly ones of me riding in your car(s) with you, listening to what you were listening to and watching you, learning from you. from "he came, he saw, he conquerrrrred!" to "my plaaace in this worrld," the lyrics are streaming into mind right now.

heh. thanks.

Great post! Like Nate, the first thought I had was riding in your car - singing U2 at the top of our lungs (remember after I graduated from Tech and we went to McClain's with my brother Dan? Driving back singing 'shake it, shake it, shake it Salome!')

Then I saw The Choir made it to #5!! Ahead of MWS!! As Steve & Derri say, 'Thanks for listening.' Apparently Manda needs some exposure to The Choir - has she heard 'Wide-Eyed Wonder'?

Thanks for the memories...

Nicole Nordeman is definitely at the top of my list.
I'm also a big praise & worship fan, so I've been really into Rita Springer lately...
