I just returned from Calcutta, India last week where I was for a week and a half while I was studying for my doctoral program. What an incredible place. I wish that I could show you the pictures I took. They turned out great but very, very sad to see all the poverty, pain and brokeness of the poor who live in the streets. The cool thing is the city has the nickname “The City of Joy” and that was evidenced by the way the people lived with joy on their faces. It was hard to see so many Hindu’s and Muslims (The city is made up of 76% Hindu and 22% Muslim) in such utter poverty but still with such joy in their faces. This rocked my theology some as I could not have envisioned such joy in people’s lives without Christ at the center.
