Classis ExamsCategory:
News
Today, my brother is taking several exams by the classis (see RCA church order) that his ordaining church is part of. The exams include Biblical Introduction, Sermonizing, Theological Introduction, Personal Piety and Fitness for Ministry, and Christ and Salvation. He’ll be starting around noon and going until dinner. When he’s done, he’ll be on his way to being ordained by the Reformed Church in America. Pray for his clarity of thought and spirit. Go Nate! THANKS PAUL!! (and anyone who might remember in prayer today).
well, they're finally over. the last one wasn't exactly with "flying colors" but hopefully they passed me. the first 4 went really well. i tore 'em up. thanks for praying!
Mind if I ask what the last one covered?
Christology. the examiner was pretty brutal, but i otherwise know the subject fairly well. he really drilled us on the various ecumenical councils and asked tons of specifics about them. ah well...
Yeah, that first part felt like trivial pursuit. He wasted quite a bit of time on that I thought.
I still can't believe that one dude couldn't define "atonement". Sheesh. Still impressed with the chica though. The CRC doesn't know what it's missing...
john, you're right. the CRC is pretty slow on the uptake with women in the pastorhood, if you will. however, they have left it up to individual classis' to decide how to handle it, and the one our church is in has allowed individual congregations to vote in women pastors. our church has had one, and it's all the better for it, i think. at least i am. i realized that in many ways women are probably better suited for the roll since they innately contain much more of what a pastor should be--caring, sensitive, in tune, guiding--pastoral.
