I’ve done it. I added Google ads (at bottom) to my site. I guess I never thought about doing it before, but now that I have done it, it seems a little weird to me that I’m advertising for something I’ve never seen before. Chances are something weird will show up or even something totally contradictary to what I believe. That freaks me out a little. However, as with many things in my life, I’m willing to experiment. Isn’t it funny though that in our day and age that as a Christian, with a website, talking about Christian things, I would have ads placed on my site? I mean it just says something, although I’m not sure exactly what, about our time. What do you think? Posted by pablohart on June 10, 2004 11:22 PM |

"Chances are something weird will show up..."
How about this one:
;)
crazy thing is that if this wasn't a "religious" site, it doesn't seem like the advertising would matter as much. i mean, if this was, say, yahoo or google, and the ad that came up with the one pointed out above, it wouldn't matter. the site is more nuetral to religion and therefore the ad would be acceptable.
i suppose it would be like having ads from the whale hunting society on a save the whales site. seems like whenever there's a cause or belief at stake, then the content of the advertising matters.
But what is the equivalent of the "hunting whale" ad on ThisChristianLife.org? The yahoo ad was a bit weird, but I don't think it's message was anti-Christian. An ad like "Come to Budda" might be, I guess. But I doubt Google's system will do that. ;)
Of course, you are probably more worried that any old so-called Christian message might appear on your site, right?
Or do you have reservations about "advertising" Christ on a personal, non-commercial site?
FWIW, I never would have known you had ads on your site if you hadn't posted about it. I have a plug-in installed in my browser that blocks 98% of all advertising on websites (including google's syndicated ads). Ads have gotten so obnoxious anymore that I've finally just resorted to filtering them out entirely.
