New York Contrast

Category: Observations

Busy, big, and glamorous are the words I would use to describe New York. It’s fast-paced. It’s crowded. It’s huge on every scale. That’s not my regular life. Daily life for me would be described as predictable, picky and generic. Coming back from a quick trip to New York city last weekend opened up a window of revelation for me—a contrast between life in the big city and life in a medium-sized town in the Midwest.

For about a day, the contrast was blatently apparent. I kept asking myself, “Is this all there is to my life?” Not that I desire the New York life so much, but my existing life just seemed so… boring. Is this really the best it can be? Does God want more out of me than I’m giving? Do I trust him enough?
