Something Cool Just Happened

The Banner CoverWHAT?! An article I actually want to read from my denominations monthly magazine? What? ANOTHER one I’m intested in? What the heck is going on here!

I picked up the Banner, and out of shock, I about fell over. Normally, I would pick it up and look it over—almost out of obligation. I would think to myself, “I’m a leader in our church, I guess I better know what people are reading from the denominational monthly magazine.” Now that it gets delivered to every household in the CRC for free every month (great move by the powers that be, by the way), I have a chance to stay up with things and feel more connected to the denomination.

This time, I was shocked because there were two articles in there that I was actually interested in reading. One was a short little ditty on podcasting (hot new Internet blogging/audio technology), and the other was a full feature on the band U2 and the good things they’re doing around the world.

Unfortunately, I can’t link to the articles for you to peruse because last months issue is still online and the new one hasn’t been put up yet. For a minute there, I thought our church was catching on.

ever thought of submitting an article yourself? i'm sure you have a lot to contribute that would be stimulating to other readers in your denomination!

No! I hadn't thought of that. Maybe I'll mention something or write something. My wife is the editor... between the two of us, we should be able to contribute something worthwhile.

Thanks.

I think the link is up now.

I thought of you today when I read this in "Adventures in Missing the Point" by Brian McLaren:
"In the modern world, theology was articulated by scholars in books and lectures. To the contrary, in the emerging culture it may well be that theologians will leave the library more often and do their research and study among the rest of us. And the best of the emerging theologians will join hands and hearts with poets, musicians, filmmakers, actors, architects, interior designers, landscape designers, dancers, sculptors, painters, novelists, photographers, Web designers - not only to communicate an authentically Christian theology for these times, but also to discern it, discover it."

yeah, you and Manda should cook something up. i write letters to the editor of the RCA's newsletter (which to be honest is really lame compared to the new Banner), but they're pretty tight about who can write stories. very tight actually.
