The frontman for the rock and roll group U2 will speak the Economic Club Of Grand Rapids’ annual dinner at DeVos Place. Bono is scheduled to talk about the fight against AIDS and poverty in Africa. Four years ago, Bono founded DATA, a group designed to raise awareness about global issues including AIDS, poverty and debt. He also participated in last year’s Live 8 concerts, which drew attention to poverty around the world. U2 only appearance in Grand Rapids was in 1981 when they performed at Fountain Street Church. The concert came just after the release of the band’s first album. Anyone who wants to attend tonight’s speech must either be a member of the Economic Club or must join the club. 24 Hour News 8 will have coverage of the talk both on air and online.
